8: The Tunnel
It was like
An opening to a dream
Frightfully fantastic
Eagerly endeavorous.
I thought
The shadows whispered of it
To me,
But my friends told me first.
Stolen away
In nighttime gloom
They had hidden in a tomb,
Where grass grew
And stone had inscriptions.
The tunnel was there
A long shaft to unknown lands,
Guarded only by three thieves
Who now had no hands.
And now shadows emerged.
How to pass through it
Seemed easier than death
And we had soon gathered
In the tomb
They had left.
The strange sound of wind
Rustling in the grass
A draft from outside worlds
Unknown,
Dawning upon us
A divine mass.
The first to go was Dietrich
He held a candle aloft,
The next was Carmen
And Seidfrieg,
And finally Molly and Pop.
I ended the line
My witless spine,
Never daring to dream again
Of what would come
And pass tonight
When our journey would be
Done.
