4: In stone
Evening, dusk and twilight zone
Grows weary and distraught
When shadows gaze
Through windows' haze
And criminals are not caught.
Across the graveyard's spanning
All terror and all might,
They walk the earth,
The searing lot,
Embodiment of death and fright.
They live alone
And write in stone
For all the world to see
What goes beyond
That southern song
And across the stony sea.
They come only to the living world
Where no footprint is to be seen
We see them not,
Hear them once,
And that's their final sheen.
Their tales are long and tiresome
Their voices thick and timid
They whisper at night
A terrible sight
In nightmares pure and vivid.
They live alone
And write in stone
For all the world to see,
What goes beyond
That southern song
And across the stony sea.
