DARKLIGHTER CHRONICLES

Prologue

Darklighter Chronicles is my lifeblood. It contains dark themes reflecting my own journey through life.

This version is unedited and pieced loosely together. I might edit it some more as time goes on, but I apologize for inconsistencies and missing links. I think the most important aspects of the story is the characters and their interactions and relationships. More Darklighter content can also be found in my collection of short stories specifically the One in a Million-trilogy.

Enjoy.

It was like stepping into an old, American jazz bar in the ballroom. The dim light illuminated the wooden panels, the lacquered wooden floor boards and by the bar the brass glass holders shone like gold. The air was thick with cigarette smoke, and in the corner, an old-fashioned jukebox played a loud jazz song. Not the modern fusion style...

With a secure pace he walked along the edge of the roof, the London skyline gleaming like an ocean of tar strewn with drops of amber. The wind tore at his long, black coat as he sat down at the corner and looked down into the streets where he held his eyes on two persons walking closely together. His black...

The dark corridors of the mansion lay in a vast maze-like web. You could go from one end of the mansion and end up exactly where you started if you didn't keep your mind on track of what places you passed and such. Vigilance was important, even for the inhabitants of the mansion.

The air was frosty over Vienna, but the sun was none the less high on the spring pale sky. In between the morning wailing horns of the cars the faint voiles of birds having a cold could be heard from the park which lay between the grey concrete blocks. The trees were still naked but with a light hint of green at the edges of the frost clad boughs....

The docks lay deserted in the nighttime gloom. Few hours remained until the grand ceremony of the opening of Darklighter Tower. Aenriques hastened down the piers and arrived at what seemed like a closed-down warehouse, once a shipping outpost for container ships. The really big ones.

The plaza was buzzing with transmission vans and TV-reporters lining up at the edge of the gigantic crowd gathering to celebrate the opening of the high, dark glass-and-steel construction in the background. Spotlights moved over the façade like coloured globes rolling by, and above helicopters flew around recording the spectacular scenery. The...

Back at the mansion, Matthew was inside the entrance hall and up the stairs to the first floor where he was greeted by Zacharias.

The docks were quiet as Shade landed on the edge of the harbour basin. The waters were dark and the rain had begun falling from the thickened clouds, breaking the water surface in soft ripples. He scanned the area and withdrew his wings to stay anonymous to his surroundings. The little note in his hand had the address scribbled down...

I was appointed the task of concealing the greatest treasure of darkness, so to speak. Forgive me my grammar, I am not accustomed to writing, but I will do my best. I feel it is time for me to tell my tale. I'm more of a "do'er", I do things, most of the time, spying, killing, delivering messages. But a while ago, my life took a drastic turn....
